Samsung’s held a flashy launch in New York this morning to announce the Galaxy Tab S. Here’s the basic rundown of Samsung’s new premium tablet.
Samsung’s dubbing it their “best tablet ever” — but then they would say that.
Here’s the basic specification rundown:
- WQXGA 8.5 and 10.5″ 2560×1600 display resolution.
- 6.6mm thin
- Exynos 5 Octa (1.9 GHz QuadCore ＋ 1.3 GHz Quadcore) or Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.3 GHz Quadcore (smart money says we’ll get the Quadcore, at least on the LTE variant locally)
- Android 4.4
- 3GB RAM
- 16/32GB internal storage plus microSD
- Wi-Fi and LTE versions — still waiting on confirmation of what we’ll get in Australia, at least officially. Presuming Euro versions, the usual direct importers should offer them as well.
- 802.11ac Wi-Fi
- Battery: 7,900mAh (10.5) 4,900mAh (8.4)
On the software side, aside from the usual run of Android goodies, Samsung’s having another pitch at music services with “Milk” (US Market only) and freebies from companies such as Conde Nast and Marvel… yep, and again, US-only at this point. It’ll be interesting to see what media hooks Samsung Australia is able to build into the local Galaxy Tab S.
The included SideSync service allows you to pair it with a Samsung Galaxy S5 to take and make phone calls, something they’ve claimed as a first for a tablet — Samsung’s presumably ignoring the Fonepad in this discussion — and will be available in the US in July or $499 and $399 for the Wi-Fi 10.5 and 8.4 inch versions respectively, with LTE to follow.
No direct word on when we’ll see them in Australia, but given the number of Australian journalists flown to New York by Samsung, it’s a certain bet we’ll see them here at some point.
