Alex Kidman (that would be me, last time I checked) is an Australian freelance technology journalist.
I started working as a tech journalist back in 1998, which means I’ve clocked up over twenty five years working in the IT journalism industry.
In that time I’ve worked or written for just about every significant technology masthead in the country, and plenty of international publications and sites as well.
I’ve primarily worked in consumer IT, but I’ve also written security and small business technology articles across a range of topics, as well as consulting work for technology firms, press release writing and content creation work.
I’m a former editor at ZDNet Australia, CNET Australia, GameSpot, Gizmodo Australia, PC Mag Australia and finder.com.au.
I’ve also written heavily for the Sydney Morning Herald, Australian Financial Review, News.com.au, The Courier Mail, the ABC, GadgetGuy.com.au, Techly, Atomic, MacWorld Australia, PC User, TechLife, TechRadar, CRN, PC World Australia, Good Gear Guide and many more.
I make frequent radio and television appearances. Currently you can catch me on a fortnightly basis talking the latest technology news on ABC Western Plains and ABC Shepparton.
I’m also the co-host of the award-winning Vertical Hold: Behind The Tech News, a weekly technology podcast with Adam Turner. Each week we speak to Australia’s leading technology industry journalists to get the stories behind the news of the week.
If you’re looking for well-written work delivered to a deadline from one of Australia’s leading technology journalists, drop me a line.
One quick explainer: You may have also heard of Angus Kidman. He’s my brother, also a technology journalist and currently Editor-In-Chief at Finder. We are not the same person, but just about everyone in PR will mistake one of us for the other at some point in time.

If you favour fiction over technical writing, I’ve also written a couple of books, available for e-readers everywhere.
There’s Sharksplosion, a very silly B-Movie that is everything you’d expect with a title like that:
