No "Apple SIM" for Australian iPad Air 2

AppleSIM
One of the more curious features of the new iPad Air 2 is the inclusion of a prepackaged “Apple SIM” for UK or US customers. It won’t be a feature of Australian iPad Air 2 models, according to Apple.
The way the Apple SIM works is, as per Apple US’s Wireless page for the iPad Air 2:
“The new Apple SIM is preinstalled on iPad Air 2 with Wi-Fi + Cellular models. The Apple SIM gives you the flexibility to choose from a variety of short-term plans from select carriers in the U.S. and UK right on your iPad. So whenever you need it, you can choose the plan that works best for you — with no long-term commitments. And when you travel, you may also be able to choose a data plan from a local carrier for the duration of your trip.”
The Australian version of the same page omits that bit of information, but wanting to be sure, I’ve checked with Apple’s local representatives, and they’ve confirmed that it won’t be a feature here. That doesn’t mean that you can’t travel or indeed roam with an LTE-capable iPad Air 2, mind you — it just means that whatever deals Apple’s struck with US and UK carriers for simple roaming won’t be as readily apparent to you.
