How do I transfer files or photos on or off an Android phone?

AirDroid
Android is a supremely flexible operating environment, which means there’s no single way you must transfer content, be it photos, music, video or documents to or from an Android device. Still, it’s a process that perplexes many. Here’s an easy way out of the quandary.
It’s true that you’re not stuck for choice when it comes to shifting content to and from an Android device; in that respect it’s much more flexible than the competing iOS, Windows Phone or Blackberry platforms. You can use a cable — if you’ve got one and the Android transfer software is behaving itself, which isn’t always the case. You can always hit the share option within most data-compliant apps and send stuff to email or external storage solutions such as dropbox. You could copy files from the phone to a microSD card — if your device supports microSD — and then use an SD converter card to plug it into your desktop. You could even just wave your arms at a specific resonance in order to set up a waveform that’ll transfer via the IR port, although I’ve never had much luck with that approach.
But what if all you’ve got is the phone and you need your data in a hurry? I find myself using the same solution time and time again, simply because it works simply, and that’s via Sand Studio’s free Airdroid app. It connects up any Android device — tablet, smartphone and even esoterica like the Samsung Galaxy Camera — via WiFi to any browser, from which you can drag and drop files to your heart’s content. Previous versions relied on you being on the same wireless network, but the recent update does away with that issue neatly, although you’ll need an Airdroid account in order to make that work. I rarely find myself in the position where that’s an issue, but AirDroid remains one of the very first apps I run whenever setting up a new Android device, or simply when I quickly and securely want to get photos or other documents off an Android device.

  1. My question is: how do you get music on an Android? If the answer could be osmosis that would be great

  2. Same app — fire up Airdroid, connect up a PC with some music on it and you can drag directly into the right area for music, at which point the app will do the rest.
