Are Globalgig's 4G plans good value?

GlobalGig
There’s no shortage of choices when it comes to data roaming when overseas, but there’s a real shortage of 4G roaming options. Globalgig’s new deal offers 4G connectivity in Australia and the UK while widening its overall coverage to a larger number of international destinations.
Globalgig’s SIMs are sold on post-paid plans, but they’re month by month plans with no particular contract length, so it would be feasible to pick one up for a single overseas trip. It’s also slightly rejigged its plans to fit its new 4G-capable image.
The baseline plan is the “4G Flexi” plan starting at $4.99/month for 250MB. The second tier plan is “Go Europe and USA”, which starts at $20/month for 250MB, and the final tier is “Go Global”, which will cost from $30/month for 250MB and upwards. It’s 4G only in Australia and the UK at this point in time.

Are they good value? That’s going to depend on your exact usage.
Within Australia they’re on Optus’ 4G network, with 3 as their UK partner network, and solely within those spaces you could potentially get more data and calls included with a completely “local” SIM at some of those price points.
There are some genuinely interesting deals around roaming at the moment, such as Vodafone’s $5 roaming, but it wouldn’t take too many days for Globalgig’s offering to eclipse that, again depending on your usage, and critically, how well you can actually hook into the overseas network in your destination country.
There’s convenience in having a SIM that works in Australia and overseas, but for some destinations opting for a local SIM if you have an unlocked device can be the easiest way to get onto the local networks, including 4G-capable networks.
I’ve asked Globalgig for a review SIM for some upcoming travel of mine, so expect a review of what the service is like to use in the coming weeks.
