Trials Frontier review

Trials Frontier: Pricing

Trials Frontier is a free app for iOS with an Android version apparently on the cards, due “at a later date” according to Ubisoft.
Gems, the core underlying currency that runs Trials Frontier starts at $6.49 for 200 gems, all the way up to a stonking $129.99 for 5800 gems.

All that racing, and you can't even tell me what it's for?

I like Trials… but not to the tune of $129.99.

Trials Frontier: Fat Duck Verdict

I have to admit that I’m conflicted by Trials Frontier. On the one hand, it’s a decent implementation of the Trials model built for casual play, and it’s not terribly onerous to work around its timing implementation for refuelling. I’ve certainly had a large number of hours of play so far without having to spend a cent.

Plus bonus Hodor joke, for no extra cost!

At the same time, it’s yet another game that I would have been happy to throw Ubisoft ten bucks for to play as much as I possibly could without all the IAP silliness. The casual level design means that it’s only ever bite-sized, and Trials can be so much more than that.
Hardcore Trials fans, or even those interested but perhaps put off by the serious skills required to be a console Trials master will find some fun here, but they’ll also find equal quantities of IAP irritation.
Well, that was fuelish.
