Does everyone need a compact zoom camera? The answer is probably no, and it’s undeniable that the market for distinct compacts is one that’s shrinking in direct proportion to the improvements in smartphone camera optics generally.

That’s not the same thing as saying that nobody needs one, however, because until we get zoom lenses the size of those found on the Lumix TZ60 on smartphones, there are some shots that you simply won’t be able to get with a smartphone.
The Lumix TZ60 is solidly built and delivers generally high quality results, and for that segment of the market that wants a compact solution without the full heft of an interchangeable lens or DSLR camera it’s a good choice.
