A plea for and end to the patent wars (that’ll no doubt fall on deaf ears), a powerful yet underpowered laptop, and a column resurfaces from the dim dark ages of history…
Yesterday’s Hydrapinion column jousted yet again with the current patent battles between Apple and… just about everybody. In the end, the losers are us.
Patent Wars: Can we just get back to the nifty gadgets? “So there’s really two ways to go from here. The road we seem to be going down is one of dull patent lawsuits that make my head hurt…”
Meanwhile, over at CNET Australia, it’s a case of another day, another laptop tested:
Acer Travelmate 5760G: “The TravelMate 5760G is a solid system with plenty of grunt, but nowhere near enough power.”
And finally, I discovered today that Miss Nine has as part of her dance syllabus a track that I’ve used as the punchline for more than a few articles.
This song, to be specific:

And that brought to mind a column I wrote a long, long time ago, on programming. Now, a lot of my columns from more than about five years ago are lost in the mists of online time, for various site redesign reasons I won’t go into now. Although I do wish I’d saved copies of my old GameSpot reviews. Some of them were really good, and now (*sob*) they’re gone. But my Builder column is still up — and here it is, many years after it was originally published:
Turtley Logical: “Said learned fellow was, of course, the one and only Vanilla Ice. You probably realised that.”
