PlexConnect bypasses 3rd gen Apple TV jailbreak barrier

AppleTV
The third generation Apple TV is a nice enough streaming box, but it’s rather securely locked down, which means it’s tricky to get it working outside Apple’s ecosystem. Previous generations have been jailbroken wide open, but not the third generation. It turns out, however, that you don’t need to jailbreak it to get it streaming other media — just fool it a little.
I’ve covered the efforts of the PlexConnect project, which tricks the third generation Apple TV into thinking that a Plex server is actually the Trailers app. It’s a neat enough hack (disclaimer: I haven’t had time to test it myself just yet) for those wanting more media compatibility out of their Apple TV.
So go and read it now!
