Chromecast listed on Dick Smith Electronics for $49

ChromeCast
After months of speculation, it looks as though Google’s Chromecast media adaptor will officially launch in Australia on the 28th of May, with retailer Dick Smith Electronics listing it for pre-order now.

Dick Smith’s site doesn’t say much about the device — there isn’t even an image as yet, or mention of any specifically Australian services with the device, simply text that states

Chromecast is a thumb-sized media streaming device that plugs into the HDMI port on your TV.
Chromecast works with devices you already own, including Android tablets and smartphones, iPhones®, iPads®, Chrome for Mac® and Chrome for Windows®
Set it up with a simple mobile app, then send your favorite online shows, movies, music and more to your TV using your smartphone, tablet or laptop
Browse for what to watch, control playback, and adjust volume using your device. You won’t have to learn anything new.

It’s safe to bet that Netflix compatibility won’t be part of the official sales pitch, though.
We discussed Chromecast’s viability in Australia in the most recent episode of Vertical Hold; if you’re in the Android ecosystem already its a solid product, and the asking price is quite acceptable given Dick Smith will have their own retail slice to take out of the top.
