Camcorders and consoles for your consumption

Posted April 28th, 2010 by Alex and filed in Published

A couple of wildly different articles for your entertainment and education today, which is why the above headline is a touch on the alliteratively tortured side.

Firstly, at CNET.com.au, a standard definition flash based camcorder from Canon:

Canon Legria FS37: “Canon’s budget line SD camcorder won’t wow anyone with high quality footage, but it won’t break the bank either.”

and then at PC Authority, a Vintage Tech column looking back at Nintendo’s second-best selling home console:

Vintage Tech: Looking back at the Nintendo Entertainment System: “Astonishingly, back in the 1980s when the games market was a fraction of its current size, Nintendo shifted 61 million of its ugly little grey box.”

Notebooks, Remote controls and some pure RAWK…

Another day of rather mixed articles for your perusal.

Firstly, PC Authority has a roundup of remote control applications for iPhone:

Amazing Apps for your iPhone: Remote Control Apps: “Control your music, video, mouse and even your entire PC with these five remote control applications for the iPhone.”

and then CNET.com.au has another two of my reviews up. Firstly, a Samsung notebook:

Samsung R519: “Samsung’s R519 brings entry-level pricing and sensibilities to the market in a notebook that won’t wow anybody, or send them broke either.”

and then a DS game review that affords me the ability to reference ’80s action-adventure series and potentially defame a member of the Rolling Stones, and all within context.

Band Hero (DS): “Band Hero for the DS tries very hard to mimic the success of its full console brethren. It fails very hard, too.”

Even if I don’t say…

I know, I know. You were expecting another Movember update. But that was last month, you see?

Not to fret. A big final Movember wrap-up post will be along shortly. If you’re very lucky, there won’t be a photo, even.

In the meantime, I’ve been investigating the exciting world of universal remotes and red stiletto heels for CNET.com.au:

Logitech Harmony 700: “The Harmony 700 is a fine remote, but Logitech’s older universal remotes outclass it in features and value.”

Style Boutique: “One part fashion mix and match, one part introduction to consumerism. Style Boutique’s a weird little game, especially coming from Nintendo, but tween girls will love it regardless.”

Actual stars might be cheaper

A contemplation on whether things that are “free” are actually free in any meaningful sense. Somewhat long and a bit rambling, so I’ll hide it behind a break to save page space for those who don’t want to read it.
